Pit bull Breeder Types: “The puppy peddler”

As we talked about earlier this week, there are many different types of pitbull breeders. I would like to bring you to terms with a breeder type called the Puppy Peddler.

When a breed becomes popular and in high demand, many breeders see a chance to do as many breeding’s as they can to make money selling the puppies. Some can have a very large operation and loose track of what dogs are breeding with each other. When things get out of hand like this a process called inbreeding can take place. If you don’t know what inbreeding is here is the definition: Inbreeding is breeding between close relatives. This can cause numerous problems because inbreeding can cause a dog to have so many other issues.

Other results of inbreeding are:

• reduced fertility both in litter size and sperm viability
• increased genetic disorders
• lower birth rate
• slower growth rate
• smaller adult size
• loss of immune system function

You can spot a puppy peddler style breeder by the amounts of dog they house together. If there is sign of order and organization in the breeding program.
