Quality Pitbull Breeders vs. Backyard Breeders

Good day folks,
Once you have found a breeder that wants to sell you a pitbull pup, do you know how to spot a quality pitbull breeder vs. a not so good breeder. A topic that many people ask me about. Well first of all have you ever heard the saying “First impression are everything?” Well you are looking to buy your pitbull from a quality breeder, your first impression will most likely tell you if you should buy from that breeder or not.
First, look at the surroundings, are things neat and tidy. A breeder that is serious about his/her business keeps the breeding kennel and its surroundings nice and tight. Even if this breeder has a lot of dogs in their breeding program, there should not be urine or feces all over the ground.
And Secondly, even before you start to observe the individual breeder, do a Sniff test. Yes folks, a sniff test will tell you if the breeder is concerned with the health of the dogs they are breeding. There should be no reason for you to walk around holding your nose and looking to buy a puppy from this person.
Honestly I don’t think that you can tell just by looking at the physical appearance of the breeder of you should do business with them or not. Most breeders wear clothes that they can get dirty in because keeping up a breeding program can be dirty hard work at times. I have been fooled by both. I have seen really shaggy looking breeders that have good high quality breeding and really professional clean cut breeders that had really bad hygiene in the dogs under their breeding program. So it can work both ways. I will get into it a little deeper. Keep reading. Once the breeder starts talking listen to them. Some of what they say will revile red flags.
Here is how to notice the Red Flags:
-If the breeder has a lack of knowledge about the pitbull breed and is not up on current events surrounding the dogs they breed.
-If you ask the breeder about health screens and they tell you that their dogs don’t need to be tested. A serious breeder does monthly to quarterly heath checks. When breeding dogs, disease can destroy your whole operation. Monthly health screens lowers the risk of disease spreading from one dog to another.
-If the breeder is too cocky and/or tries to talk badly about other local breeders. When a breeder has a defensive attitude there might be something their breeding program they are insecure about.
-This one is a give away. If the breeder tells you they have no papers to give you on the dog you are purchasing. Also if it is a puppy you are buying, make sure the mother and father are on site.
-If the breeder does not have a contract for you to sign upon purchasing the dog. There is no reason for this. It is totally unprofessional.
